Abstract :
A challenge in Denmark in the near future is to balance the electrical grid due to a large increase in the renewable energy production mainly from wind turbines. In this work a central control system using heat pumps in single family houses to help balancing the grid is investigated. The central MPC controller optimises the hour by hour energy consumption based on energy prices. A server based solution is tested using inhabited single family houses showing ability to move consumption with minor indoor temperature variations.
