Abstract
With respect to efficient utilization and the issues of safety and security, the users of educational buildings need to be traced and tracked. This paper studies the design of a sensing network to monitor the utilization and occupancy of a large university educational building, that contains both closed and wide open environment. After comparing different applicable technologies, RFID is selected as the main technology for tracing and tracking the users. By means of combining with other technologies such as access gates and cameras, three design scenarios present the increasing detection accuracy of the monitoring network.
