Abstract :
Resolvers are robust and reliable transducers, working as rotary transformers, and are used for mechanical angle measurement. In the present work, the two stator windings of the resolver are excited with sine and cosine signals; the rotor winding produces a sinusoidal signal that presents a phase shift equal to the mechanical angle of the rotor. A resolver converter is developed to extract this mechanical angle in a novel way. The proposed method is based on a phase-locked loop technique that produces a measure of the angle that tracks the true mechanical angle of the rotor. The paper presents full details of the converter, Matlab simulation and experimental results.
