Abstract
MIL-STD-1553 is a data bus that served the needs of military system for over 35 years. Contemporary applications require much higher data rates than 1553´s 1 megabit-per-second data rate. In this paper, a method for increasing the 1553´s transmission speed in existing 1553 networks is explored and implemented. The method combines Discrete Multitone (DMT) modulation and 1553 network, and uses a new broadband DMT interface over the existing 1553 wire. The maximum transmission speed is soaring from 1 Mb/s to 105Mb/s. The scheme is implemented on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) platform and evaluated on real 1553 networks. It shows a remarkable improvement in performance to satisfy the demands of contemporary avionic networks.
