  • Abstract
This paper describes the development of a multi-domain model of an outer rotor single-phase brushless DC fan motor. The model consists of several submodels to simulate the different parts of the fan. The electric machine driving the fan is modeled in a finite element program. The 3D model allows the simulations of the transient, nonlinear behavior of the motor. The inverter circuit is implemented in a circuit simulation software. The control logic as well as the mechanical behavior is simulated with MATLAB®SIMULINK. By coupling these submodels together, a multi-domain model is obtained that is able to simulate the overall behavior of the fan drive.
