Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of energy detection of an unknown deterministic signal over a general fading channel model. More particularly, a closed-form mathematical expression is derived for the energy detector´s probability of detection over α-μ generalized fading channel with selection combining diversity reception. The derived expression can be used to study the performance of energy detector in many known fading channel models with and without selection combining; this can be achieved by choosing some specific values for both α and μ parameters in the proposed general expression. Nakagami-m, Weibull, Gamma, Rayleigh and Exponential fading distributions are special cases of the derived general expression.
