Abstract :
This paper describes preliminary studies on automatic music composition. The aim is to investigate if it possible to generate music that would be difficult to distinguish from the music created by human composers. We describe a memetic algorithm used to achieve the goal of the studies, the influence of its parameters on the quality of composed pieces and conclusions stemmed from several tests.
