  • Abstract
In a wireless sensor network data from a source is forwarded either in a single hop or multi-hop fashion and most of the nodes energy is depleted while forwarding. The highest priority data is not handled effectively and this forwarding mechanism doesn´t suit to industrial application such as industrial boilers where data below the critical levels are important. The rate at which the level decreases below the critical value is one of the parameter need to be considered to prevent explosion. In order to overcome the above deficiency, certain nodes are selected among the group of nodes to form virtual backbone. One of the approach is a color based connected dominating set (CBCDS). The basic idea behind this approach is to split the sensor nodes into 2 different colors. With this approach a hybrid path is constructed for effective transportation of data which provides effective handling of prioritized data and reduces the delay in transportation of urgent data. In order to increase the life time of dominating node, periodic rotation of dominating nodes in the network is performed based on residual energy. The performance of wsn is analyzed in terms of delay, throughput and energy consumption and network life time.
