Abstract :
This paper proposes the stability improvement of the two-area multimachine power system by using the energy capacitor system (ECS). The algorithm for designing the damping controller of the ECS is based on the H loop shaping control. The acquired results from the design are the control parameters of the ECS damping controller with the constraint that the size of the ECS must satisfy the criteria of damping consideration. From the simulation results, it is obviously found that the ECS can be used to effectively enhance the damping of the power system. Moreover, the results show that the cooperation control between the ECS and the existing PSS can achieve not only better performance in term of higher damping ratio and faster settling time, but also smaller size of ECS.
