Abstract :
Enterprise servers have been widely used in telecommunication and storage system, such as Internet service. For the stability of server working, cooling is the critical issue in the design of the server. Usually, fan is the major cooling source for a server system. In recent years, fan speed control has become a critical part of system thermal architecture, and the difficulty of fan speed control is the heat coupling effect among the chips within the server. However, the state of the art in server fan speed control often results in over provisioning of air flow that leads to high fan power consumption. To avoid the unnecessary fan power consumption, this work focus on the coupling effect among the heated chips, and has demonstrated the design of fuzzy controller to achieve the decoupling fan speed control. By LabVIEW GUI programming, the fuzzy fan speed control system was implemented. Experimental results show that the fuzzy controller can significantly suppress the fluctuation of the fan speed.
