Abstract
A new synthesis technique is developed for a phased array antenna to radiate optimum field patterns in its near- or far-zone. This technique employs a domain transformation of field basis functions using array elements´ radiations, and may overcome the over-coverage problems arising from the broad patterns of basis functions. The technique accelerates the synthesis procedure because the new, transformed field basis functions are sufficiently narrow in the pattern to provide a good coverage in a small target zone. Numerical examples will be presented to illustrate the validity.
