Abstract
This talk discusses the intelligence analysis process, with particular emphasis on the challenges faced as (1) individual analysts assess, distill and interpret information obtained collaboratively from multiple sources; (2) collaborate with others to form increasingly distilled and integrated evaluations and warnings; and (3) interact with decision makers under legal, social and cultural constraints in support of those decision makers needs to determine policy and actions. Research implications will be discussed from a sociotechnical perspective. The issues faced in the Intelligence Community will be compared and contrasted with those arising in other collaborative enterprises such as engineering.
