Abstract :
Multi-channel dynamic matrix sound system (DMS) is a multi-channel input and output sound system which is based on source synthesis and Huygens´ principle. The sound is recorded by microphone array and multi-channel independent records. Traditional stereo and wave front synthesis system based on Huygens´ principle have very limited listening areas. The reproduced sound cannot be perfect unless infinite secondary sources are used. In DMS, the combination of source synthesis with field thesis can significantly improve the sound quality in the listening area. Source synthesis can also reduce the number of secondary source and still preserve the sound quality. In this paper, we conduct subjective evaluation experiments of DMS and the conventional stereo, including the comparison of the listening position, subjective auditory perception with different DMS configurations. The experiment proofs that properly configured DMS can achieve significant improvement over conventional stereo and wave synthesis system.
