Abstract :
This research shows a method to obtain chitosan from shells of crustaceans and Ganoderma lucidum fungus, and a protocol for producing chitosan scaffolds by freeze-drying method. Extracted chitosan was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR); the scaffolds prepared were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showing that all scaffolds are highly porous with interconnection and radial orientation. This can help to distribute cells and improve the distribution of the nutrients efficiently, providing an ideal matrix suitable for cell growth. Scaffolds manufactured with chitosan from different fonts meet the requirements of reactivity since -in all cases- qualitative test was not observed in vitro cytotoxicity, showing that these scaffolds are suitable for use in tissue regeneration and repair.
