Abstract
Unicode font is the universally used coding system that provides a unique number of every character irrespective of the platform, program and language. The benefit of using Unicode fonts over ASCII fonts is that the Unicode fonts are visible in any computer system as well as in the web. ASCII and Unicode play the same role for English character coding system but for many languages including some major languages (such as Bengali) Unicode font is much more beneficial over ASCII for documentation as well as web publication. Although Bengali is an important language with rich heritage, Bengali documentation is mainly ASCII based and highly machine dependable. Although the use of Unicode for Bengali documentation is increasing gradually and it is very much essential to manage Unicode facility for a large volume of existing ACSII based documents. A number of Unicode converters are available but the performance of those is not in satisfactory level. Therefore, this study investigates a Bengali ASCII to Unicode converter that works for all the available ASCII fonts. The method able to detect and converts Bengali fonts remaining other fonts as well as document format intake. The method managed a database and performance of it found better when compared with other converters.
