Abstract
Stators of large turbo-generators experience a number of electromagnetic forces which may lead to not only violent vibration causing damage within stator windings but also noise emission. Therefore, an accurate computation of the resonant frequencies of stators seems to be very essential. The Ritz method is employed in the present analysis to drive the governing equation of the stator. Stator is modelled as a three dimensional thick shell representing stator core with stator bars, pressure bars and suspension rings as radial and circumferential stiffeners. In the present paper, resonant frequencies and vibration characteristics of a stator are investigated and compared with the available experimental data.
