Abstract :
The demand for high bandwidth communication applications is satisfied by optical communication networks. Optical communication networks are capable of providing enormous bandwidth at lower bit error rate. However the signals carried by optical communication networks can be affected by the transmission impairments caused by fiber dispersion, fiber non-linearities, optical amplifiers and optical components used in optical networks. Fiber non-linearities and non-ideal optical components will introduce cross talk, and it will interfere with the desired signals. The noise introduced by optical amplifiers will affect the received SNR. Hence it is important to consider the Physical Layer Impairments (PLI) during the routing of connection request. A quality of transmission(QoT)-aware routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) technique suitable for wavelength-routed all-optical networks is proposed. The performance evaluations show the effectiveness of the proposed improvements in reducing blocking probability.
