Introducing gesture interaction in the Ambient Assisted Living platform universaal

Many projects aim to provide technologies and solutions that will support elderly and differently abled people in their daily lives. User interfaces in such systems are extremely important for their acceptance. Consequently, a lot of effort is invested in the development of interfaces that will support natural forms of interaction. Gesture based interaction raised particular interest in recent years because of the availability of cheap technology and its intuitiveness. In this paper we discuss problems and issues when designing user interfaces for elderly, and particularly, we introduce a gesture interaction for a project that is aiming to provide a reference platform for developing Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) services.
