Abstract
The need of Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) is going to become a major feature for all kind of sensors, and therefore also all kind of radars, due to the increased signal and data exploitation capabilities, today´s enhanced system performance requirements and future customer expectations. This need is often in conflict with system constraints like observation time budge and / or available sensor characteristics. In this paper, target classification concepts for radar sensors with short observation time and therefore medium or low resolution are considered and assessed with respect to their ATR performance limits.
