Abstract :
The paper presents an analysis of the Fisher´s information about the time delay in the output signals of the most common discriminators used in tracking systems. On the basis of this analysis we consider how to select the early-late separation in the discriminator, which consists of two matched filters. This approach allows to obtain accurate time delay estimate close to the Cramer-Rao bound.
