Abstract
Due to wide spread of smart devices, adopting video contents service to the diverse clients´ device requirements is essential process. Accordingly, transcoding which is a lossy process is required and degrading video quality is inevitable. In such circumstances, minimizing perceptible quality loss is a key issue, while minimizing service cost is key issue of the video contents service provider. However, trasncoding cost and video sercice assessment are both difficult to measure before its actual services. We propose performance estimation criteria and video service quality controls scheme, by categorizing video contents. The preliminary results show that it is possible to relieve transcoding cost from the server side, while maintaining video service quality.
