Abstract :
Integrated Distributed Description Logics (IDDL) offers the possibility to describe semantic relations that exist between two ontologies in a networked-based system. However, in order to improve the expressivity of a distributed system, networked ontologies with context rules need to be integrated. OWL2Jess is a hybrid reasoning framework; that may be used to ensure the connection between OWL (Ontology Web Language) and JESS (Java Expert System Shell) in order to allow rules based reasoning on the ontology. It permits the conversion of OWL ontology code into Jess facts. Semantic pre-defined rules are used to encode the semantic of RDF (Resource Description Framework) and OWL, to check the consistency and compute the taxonomic classification. In this paper, pre-defined semantic rules by inserting IDDL inferences rules are extended and reused. The paper presents an approach to rule-based ontologies integration. It basically extends OWL2Jess/SWRL2Jess by rules borrowed from “Integrated Distributed Description Logic”. Further, it argues how the presented approach can be used to infer more information given axioms of local ontologies as well as axioms in the integrated ontologies. It provides also services of check local and global consistency of integrated OWL ontologies with alignments and context rules.
