Abstract
Torque ripple is an inherent problem of SRM which should have been decreased. Several methods have been presented for torque ripple reduction in Switch Reluctance Motor (SRM). Some of them are based on changing the structure and the geometry of the motor. The other methods are done by utilizing control techniques. This paper introduces a 6 by 4 three-phase SRM as a normal mode structure which is designed by the SRM formula. The other modes of the SRM have been created by small changes in the dimensions of the normal mode. All of the modes are simulated by Finite Element Method (FEM). Next, the value of generated torque and torque ripple versus different rotor position are achieved. After that, the effect of the variations in dimensions of the SRM is studied on the value of the generated torque and torque ripple and according to this information the optimal structure is chosen. At the end, the optimal structure is constructed, tested in laboratory and the operational results are obtained.
