Abstract :
The performance issues of both a fast wavelength switching transmitter and coherent burst mode receiver, which are fundamental components required to realize a coherent burst mode optical network, are investigated. It is demonstrated that SOA blanking and signal pre-emphasis of the laser switching signals are required for a DS-DBR laser based burst mode transmitter and that differential decoding is a pre-requisite for the fast wavelength switching coherent burst mode receiver.
