Abstract :
Effective utilization of electricity is one of global objectives for realization of sustainable societies. In order to utilize electricity supply systems efficiently, it is necessary to level our electricity demand by shifting peak time electricity demand to non-peak time. Demand response (DR) is expected as the key technology to level electricity demand by demand peak cut or shift, and it is necessary to expand the amount of the peak cut and shift capacity. In the US and some regions, various demand response programs have been implemented and the amount of peak load reduction has increased in the US. However, most of demand reduction resources are from “Commercial and Industrial” and “Wholesale” sectors and expansion of DR program utilization in residential sector is one of the important challenges to increase effectiveness of demand response programs. This paper reorganizes current existing demand response programs systematically and clarifies their characters. And using the result, an evaluation approach of demand response programs are proposed by focusing on the benefit of these programs for expansion of peak load reduction amount in residential side.
