Abstract
Among the enabling technologies, high order optical modulation formats have become a key to the design of modern wavelength division multiplexed fiber systems. In this paper we review and summarize several high order transmitter designs as well as to evaluate their suitability and feasibility in terms of optical and electrical structure complexity. In addition, we describe the most suitable transmitter design to implement for high order modulation format based on effort comparison.
