Abstract
Satisfactory operation of railway electrical systems relies on systematic identification of their electrical interactions at an early stage of the design. There is considerable historic work available on such matters. However the interactions have become more subtle, and the resolution of recent situations should give pointers towards what must be examined in future. It is believed that the usage of an Electrical System Compatibility Diagram and Matrix provides an appropriate method of achieving correct design.
