Abstract :
In this demo, we present our Dynamic Rate control (DRC) method´s functionality in an High Definition Video Conferencing (HDVC) application over best effort networks such as the Internet. Our proposed DRC algorithm offers the best frame quality at a given bitrate, and also adjusts rapidly the video bitrate to bandwidth variations. We have implemented DRC for the H.264 standard, specifically in the x264 codec on top of the Magor Telepresence infrastructure, and evaluated it under different network conditions, both objectively in terms of PSNR and SSIM, and subjectively. The results prove that DRC provides better video quality and user experience than current Rate Control (RC) methods for HDVC, while adjusting the video bitrate to bandwidth changes within 2-6 frames, which is much faster than other RCs.
