Abstract :
In sinusoidal modeling, a musical sound is represented by a sum of time-varying sinusoidals. Here, we propose a sinusoidal model specifically designed for piano tones and develop an iterative method to estimate the parameters of the model. Our model assumes the following: (1) the input signals are isolated piano tones, and (2) there may be more than one instances of the same pitch. We also have designed a spectral pick-peaking method to estimate the number of partials and the partial frequencies of piano tones. Experiments on real piano signals show that our model gives high modeling quality and yields better quality in modeling than those reported in the previous work.
