Abstract
We propose a Petri net based support in derivative development of consumer electronic products. A product should be extended so as to be backward compatible. In this method, we convert the product´s design (the UML activity diagram) to a Petri net, and then apply Petri nets´ analysis technique, called projection inheritance, to verification of backward compatibility. We illustrate the proposed method with an example in which an intelligent refrigerator is extended.
