  • Abstract
    Efficient power management is a crucial design issue in energy constrained wireless networks to ensure uninterrupted information exchange. With the requirement of end-to-end outage probability constraint, we study the problem of joint routing and power allocation optimization in multihop wireless network for two network power management policies: one is to minimize overall transmit power for which we propose minimum total power (MTP) strategy and the other is to maximize network lifetime for which we have developed energy aware minimum total power (EA-MTP) strategy. The proposed strategies only depend on channel statistics and node energy information and can be implemented distributedly. Simulation results demonstrate that compared to traditional routing algorithm with individual link outage probability constraint, MTP and EA-MTP strategies achieve significant improvement in power saving and network lifetime performances respectively. Also it has been shown that MTP strategy performs well in terms of network lifetime although it does not require periodic route updation and can be implemented efficiently in large networks.
