Abstract :
Universidad del Valle has an annual admission process for Computing Engineering career, based on the scores in the state examination (ICFES) obtained by the students graduated from high school. This test is organized in several components (math, language, etc) and every career can give more relevance to a component than the others. Traditionally, in our university the Computing Engineering career has given a very high score to the math component but until now it did not have a theoretical support. We just thought Computing Science as a branch of Mathematics and therefore its importance. With this work - for the first time - it has been analyzed the correlation among the components of the state examination and the average grades obtained by students in their careers, by means of a genetic algorithm. We got to the big point that mathematics are not as important as we thought it was.
