Abstract :
An all-optical circuit for 94 GHz millimeter wave signal generation is proposed and analyzed in this paper. A CW lightwave having a frequency offset five times the repetition frequency of the optical pulse from the centre frequency of the pulse can be generated by using an arrayed waveguide grating. When this CW lightwave is mixed with the original pulse train in a wideband unitravelling carrier photodiode, it is possible to generate spectrally pure 94 GHz mm-wave signal using a pulse repetition frequency of 18.8 GHz. Calculated power of the generated 94 GHz signal is typically of the order of 1 mW.
