Abstract :
This paper presents an analytical method for the efficient performance evaluation of HVDC travelling wave protections (TWPs). Firstly, the analytical expressions of the relaying quantities are developed in time domain. According to that, the method that uses the expressions to analyze the protection performance is illustrated taking a typical TWP scheme for example. The focal points include threshold selection and sensitivity analysis. Finally, the analytical results are compared with the simulation results obtained in PSCAD. In this way, the validity of the analytical method is well verified; the limitation of the method is also discussed.
