Abstract
The paper presents a method for efficient utilization of distributed static compensators (DSTATCOMs) to address wind farm integration reactive power and voltage requirements. The reactive power output of the DSTATCOM is monitored in the real-time using advanced monitoring tools and the available unused reactive power is sent to adjacent buses to consider reactive power needs and adjust voltage levels at adjacent buses. This impact is accurately modeled using the AC sensitivity factors which are defined at the actual system operating point and take incremental changes in the voltage magnitudes with respect to changes in reactive power changes into consideration. Numerical simulations on a standard IEEE test system exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
