Abstract :
This paper focuses on solving a voltage control problem penetrated with wind power using a Paired-Bacteria Optimizer (PBO). Installing the wind turbines in the power system is an effective way to reduce the fuel cost and emission. However, uncertainties of wind power also cause side effects to the power losses and voltage stabilities due to the changing of behavior in reactive power. Therefore, this study employs a Paired-Bacteria Optimizer (PBO) to optimize the location and parameters of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). The algorithm has been evaluated on an IEEE 30-bus test system, in comparison with three state-of-the-art Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). Simulation results indicate that the proposed method significantly reduces the real power loss on transmission line and enhances the voltage stability.
