Brief history and main mission of most widely utilized applications is provided as a technical background to a comparative case-study on awareness and utilization of selected social software applications and willingness to use them in the process of education. The objective of this paper is to present findings gained from the questionnaire investigation followed by semi-directed discussion on the role of social software applications in their private and university lives. The survey and discussions were carried out this spring at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, University of Hradec Králové and at Wroclaw School of Banking.
