Abstract
Machine Type Communication (MTC), which is also called as machine to machine communication over cellular mobile networks, has broad application prospects and market potential. However, due to massive concurrent data and control signaling transmitted by a lot of MTC user equipments (UEs), radio access network (RAN) congestion becomes an important issue. In this paper, we propose a novel class-dependent back-off scheme for LTE system to protect RAN from random access channel (RACH) overload. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme can effectively reduce the collision probability of random access and improve the throughput by 2%-5% with additional 100-200 packets access delay which is tolerable for most of the MTC applications.
