Open innovation: Literature review and outlook

On the basis of literature review, this paper first discusses the definition, background and research foundations of open innovation. On this basis, we study the types(the inside-out, the outside-in and the coupled process), specific forms and capability requirements of open innovation in depth and look for the logic relationship among them. We also summarize the implication for theory and practice. The paper ends with charting several promising areas for future research.
