Abstract :
We archived large 3D woven cultural artifacts of the "Fune-hoko" based on the image-based technique. After the Gion Festival of 2011, the repair work of the Fune-hoko storage was scheduled. Therefore, we developed a 3D scanning system for the large 3D woven cultural artifacts measurement with the laser range scanner and tried to scan and model the 3D woven cultural artifacts at high definition in 3D. Most woven cultural artifact of the Fune-hoko is very large and is composed of gold thread, glass, cotton, and brilliant embroidery. Therefore, we measured with moving the scanner at regular intervals and changing the laser strength according to the material of the fabric. Then we modeled the scanned data by image-based technique for the real-time reproduction and rendering. This paper describes a digital archiving process of large 3D woven cultural artifacts of the Fune-hoko.
