Abstract :
Plasma actuator for active flow control under atmospheric temperature and pressure has been developed using low discharge voltage. A DC corona discharge setup was designed to modify the airflow on a flat plate. The electrode configuration consisted of sharply pin electrode and grounded plate electrode. Weak light emission was observed at the edge of pin electrode with energizing electrode system. The discharge induced an airflow called EHD wind whose velocity was measured with a hot wire velocity meter (up to 2 m/s). Discharge diagnostics included emission spectra, discharge voltage, current, power and ozone density. It was observed an increasing flow velocity by increasing corona discharge voltage. Saturation of the flow velocity occurred by increasing discharge voltage. This paper introduces EHD flow distribution on a flat plate called the plasma actuator.
