Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel formulation of the Direct Torque Control (DTC) strategy, that can be an effective tool for understanding the control principle and for studying convergence and stability issues and also for comparing implementation variants. Comparison of main features as well as merits and/or drawbacks with respect to other control strategies developed for three-phase AC motor drives (model predictive control, field oriented control, sliding mode control, and so on) can also easily and promptly accomplished. An IPM motor drive is assumed as a case study for exemplifying the proposed approach of analysis, but the latter can be applied to all the rotating field electrical machine AC drives.
