Abstract
Electrodynamics approach is used to study human body effect on handset antenna parameters. Power dissipation in a human head is mainly determined by near electric field of an antenna while its radiation pattern is formed mainly by far field. So it is possible to control these parameters more or less independently. For example, near field of multipole radiators quickly decay with distance. A proposed quadrupole radiator, composed of two PIFA-type antennas mounted on a dielectric carrier, has efficiency 4 dB higher than the conventional PIFA in the vicinity of a human head phantom.
