Abstract :
The capabilities of peak power and continuous power are the main concerns for electrified vehicles. To achieve good acceleration on uphill climbing, improved peak power density is necessary. The motor´s peak power is determined by the maximum allowable temperature of the motor package. If the temperature at peak output power can be kept low, then a higher peak power is achieved. The major purpose of thermal management is to control both the heat generation and dissipation. Therefore, to maximize the interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor peak power capability, the losses or heat generation among the various key components, such as the windings, stator core, and magnets, should be reasonably distributed.
