Abstract :
This paper proposes a new implementation for an automotive power switch protection, based on the power limitation concept. The device is maintained in the safe operating area by limiting the load current at an adjustable level, in order to keep both the dissipated power and output current in the allowed range. The schematic is presented, together with the main design equations used in circuit dimensioning, for a standard 0.8 um power process.
