Abstract :
We propose the so-called “almost perfect auto-correlation sequences” as ideal spreading codes for binary phase-modulated continuous wave radar systems. After appropriate processing, these codes exhibit a perfect auto-correlation profile with zero sidelobes. This property can be exploited to build extremely high-dynamic range radar systems. Simulation examples show that a pedestrian with a radar cross section of -20 dBsm can be clearly distinguished from a bus of 30 dBsm even when they are only half a meter apart.
