Abstract :
A compact modified inverted-F antenna for WLAN/WiMAX operation is presented. The proposed antenna is suitable for 2.4/5.2/5.8GHz WLAN and 2.5/3.5/5.5GHz WiMAX operations. It has an attractive feature of low profile, near omnidirectional coverage and can easily printed on a small-size TACONIC LCAM-0620-B substrate and shows a length of 48mm and a height of 5.7mm only when fitted on each side of the housing of the display unit of the laptops (mounted at the system ground pane or supporting metal frame of the laptop display). The multiband operation is achieved by cutting three slots and one L-shaped (90° bent) shunt-fed in the inverted-F antenna. The distinctive feature of the antenna is the fact that it can provide near omnidirectional coverage and stabilize the High WLAN 5.2/5.8/5.5 Band (HB: 5.15-5.85 GHz)´s operating characteristic by adding a new novel resonance. The proposed antenna has been simulated, prototyped and measured. It is shown that the numerically simulated results are in close step with the experimental prototype results. The aimed achievable -10dB return loss bandwidth of the antenna is confirmed and its omnidirectionality are validated by experimental measurements.
