Abstract :
A novel design for miniaturization of microstrip patch antenna with penta-band response is presented for portable and multifunctional communication systems. Our proposed design consist of U-Shaped slot on the patch with a horizontal slot below the U-Shaped slot and combination of U-Shaped and L-Shaped slots on the ground plane. We also utilized shorting pin between patch and the ground plane. By the combination of all these techniques electrical length of the antenna increase and we get miniaturization up to 87%.Our proposed smaller size antenna is operating on five bands which are able to cover many applications like GSM1800MHz/GSM1900MHz/PCS/DCS/Wi-MAX/WLAN simultaneously and return loss RL<;<;10dB for all the desired bands. The most important features of our proposed miniaturized multiband antenna is that we have satisfactory gain for all the bands which is in the range of 3.5dB to 5.8 dB and sufficient impedance bandwidth which is in the range of 100MHz to 370 MHz. This type of smaller size multiband antenna is suitable for portable devices like Mobile phone and Laptop.
