Abstract :
There has been a paradigm shift in web browsing with the advent of mobile devices. More people now browse the internet from their smart phones and tablets than ever before. At the same time the web is evolving and web pages are becoming more complicated in terms of both layout and content. The intersection of the two, that is, viewing these web pages on mobile devices poses serious challenges due to the severely constrained screen dimensions of these devices. Newer websites have started to provide mobile versions of their sites that are adapted for viewing on mobile devices. However, most of the content on the web remains unsuitable for viewing on mobile devices, especially static HTML pages that precede CSS3. This paper presents an approach to solve this problem by considering each web page as a composition of content blocks. It attempts to identify blocks most relevant to the content of the page and the relationships between them. It then rearranges these blocks in a way that preserves their prominence and the relationships between them. Displaying relevant content blocks prominently would preserve the intent of the author.
