Abstract
Machine Type Communication (MTC) has been employed via cellular network in recent years. More and more services have been defined and applied to the daily life. However, the cellular networks are designed for Human to Human (H2H) communication, such a deployment raises new problems. The most important one is congestion. It leads to contention and congestion in the different parts and nodes of the network when massive devices communicate at the same time. In this paper, we proposed an access control algorithm to deal with the congestion in GSM/EDGE networks. Our solution, which is based on the Adaptive Traffic Load Slotted ALOHA (ATL-SLOHA) algorithm, effectively allows avoiding the access network congestion under high traffic loads and improves the resources utilization. We show its effectiveness through an access procedure simulation. The obtained results show that our solution is robust against different traffic loads and by using this algorithm, the access successful rate increases dramatically.
